Of Benchwork and David

The workpiece
Alhamdulilah, today i had done one of the most tiring session of the Workshop Technology course, which is the benchwork..As far as i concern, not all the readers of this blog comes from engineering background,so let me tell you briefly about what is benchwork and workshop technology yada yada.

Basically,as an engineering students we were required to take the Workshop Technology subject in IIUM.In this subject we were taught about how to handle machines and many other processes in manufacturing a  product.Of course it's main objective is to produce iium engineering graduates with a good knowledge and skills to handle those machines.Ok now i know how my lecturers feels when they explains to us about the course ouline, lol .So for today session, benchwork required us to produce a metal workpiece that have a curly edges and also a flat surfaces.

We were given a mild steel block with the dimension of 60X50X10 mm roughly. The 4 sides of its surfaces also is irregular..So our first task was to performed filing process untill it becomes even. And by using a file, we started to smooth the surfaces.TRUST me,dont say it was easy untill you try it.It looks easy, but the energy and time you pour to finish it was really a big deal.I can't imagine how the other group which had done it during the ramadhan can cope with it.Even i was thinking about to break my fast right after the class,haha..Ya, currently struggling to finish my syawal fasting days. How about you? finished your fasting days already or dont even start yet?haha..dont worry we have PLENTY of time to finish it.

So back to the topic,we were also required to cut the mild steel blok by using a hacksaw. This one was also a little bit tiring, but it is much easier than the filing process. But the main thing i want to highlight here is that the ability of us,as human to use our own bones and muscles to smoothen, bend and even cut metals is ordinary. We could only performed it by the helps of some tools, gears, and also undoubtedly with the helps of the technologies. But could you imagine how Nabi Dawud alaihi ssalam done it?. WITHOUT any tools and machines,he can bend and shaped metals and steels. This is one of the greatest Mukjizat gaven by Allah to His prophets.

Allah mentioned it in Surah Al-anbiya. verse 80,

"It was we who taught him the making of coats of mail for your benefits to guard you from each others violence: will ye then be grateful? "

It was also stated in Surah Saba',verse 11,

 A011

(Commanding), "Make thou coats of mail, balancing well the rings of chain armour, and work ye righteousness; for be sure I see (clearly) all that ye do."

This is one of the incredible stories from the quran. It also manifest the divine and credibility of our religion, which serve as a proof for humans that has doubt about Islam. As a muslim,we must take lessons from the quranic verses and impliments it in our daily life, okay?.So after the class i still wondering and amazed by this surah. The story behinds it and how it is related to my workshop session today. That is why i decided to share it with you guys! hope it worth your time. Thanks!
